Kunming City (Yunnan Province) is located in southwestern China with a varied landscape encompassing snow-capped mountains, rice terraces, lakes, and deep gorges. It is a complex landscape interspersed with very rural plateau regions with limited infrastructure.
The local government was keen to improve wastewater treatment in many rural villages in areas without access to main sewerage. In addition, in many cases, there is also no main power supply. Meaning they needed a solution that would operate reliably, without power, and with low levels of maintenance required.
BIOROCK China recommended the installation of 6 ECOROCK-5000 units and 2 ECOROCK-3000 units as a project in one of these villages. After resolving some initial issues with rainwater entering the sewage well, which required a visit from a site engineer, the system is working very well. It has more than proven its effectiveness as a solution for more widespread deployment.
The ECOROCK-5000 units have performed very well, producing effluent which meets the local government’s requirements for local sewage discharge standards. As a result, the project has received government approval. The contractors have now ordered a further 40 units from BIOROCK China to start to develop these infrastructure improvements elsewhere in the region.
