Electrically operated residential sewage treatment plants use power to aerate the raw liquid. There are numerous residential and commercial wastewater treatment techniques on the market:
RBC or “Rotating biological contractor” residential sewage treatment systems: A motor rotates half-submerged discs through the sewage inside the plant. Aerobic bacteria develop on the discs in the liquid; the aerobic phase of the treatment process occurs as the bacteria get oxygenated when the disc is out of the liquid.
SBR or “Sequencing Batch Reactor” residential wastewater treatment systems: This traditional technology involves air blowers or diffusors which “bubble” air through the sewage water to be treated. Some SBR residential wastewater treatment systems have media added to the raw liquid within the “biozone” chamber of the tank. If this is the case the system is called a SAF for Submerged Aerated Filter.
Another technique involves pumps which spray the raw sewage on a “media” surface which is “colonized » by the necessary bacteria for the water treatment. The raw liquid gets aerated when it gets sprayed over the “media” surface. This technology requires electricity for the aerobic phase of the wastewater treatment process as pumps are required.
These electric wastewater treatment techniques are very high in commissioning, running costs (spare parts replacement) and energy consumption.
Our residential wastewater treatment system is from the “trickling filter” family type of product. These plants use various different filtration “media” types. This media is always essential for the effective treatment of domestic wastewater as it allows the necessary bacteria to grow and digest pollutants. Some manufacturers rely on organic media types such as coco fiber or nutshells. These organic media types need expensive maintenance and frequent replacement as they are bio-degradable and thus may break down over time.
At BIOROCK we have developed a special media material for our residential wastewater treatment technology. Our media is very highly resistant to degradation and remains extremely stable over the long term. It requires little maintenance and ensures unique purification results. This media is exclusively developed for BIOROCK and dedicated to foul wastewater treatment.
